The Dirt Fisher – Metal Detecting for Fun and Profit

What Kind of Metal Detectors Are Used on Diggers

If you are into metal detecting, then you have probably noticed the National Geographic Channel’s TV show called Diggers.  It is a fun yet interesting TV series devoted to two guy’s passion for the hobby of metal detecting.  They may seem a little quirky, but their enthusiasm is contagious.  “King George” Wyant and his friend Tim “The Ringmaster” Saylor travel the country in search of lost relics of history.

I am a big fan of the show.  They always have a contest to see who can find the oldest, most valuable, or historically significant item.  The loser ends up paying the consequences, usually in the form of public embarrassment.  The contest and punishment usually revolve around the theme of their hunt.  They have a lot of fun and make the show fun to watch.

If you compare this show to the ‘Savage Family Diggers’ hosted by ex-wrestler Rick Savage, there is no doubt which show gives our hobby a better name.  George and Tim are often invited to metal detect and are often helping historians or archeologists learn more about the property they are detecting.  Savage is in it for the profit and tries to use financial gain as a way to get permission to detect; often offering an 80:20 split on the profits.  Savage will even bring in heavy equipment to excavate the area.  George and Tim are all about filling their holes and doing little damage to the land.  I have never seen them use anything larger that a hand held digging tool.

The “Diggers” seem to be just as big of fans of Garrett metal detecting equipment as I am.  They even use the Garrett Pro-Pointer for pin pointing their signals.

They have around 28 episodes in the can so far.  I am always on the lookout for new episodes of Diggers and have even set my DVR to record it.  If you love the hobby of metal detecting, then you will certainly love this TV series.  I recommend you check it out.  Happy Digging!

I love this show. These guys are great. Quirky but fun. They give the hobby of metal detecting a much better name than that Randy Savage guy.
